About The Position

UCAR is seeking an Administrative Assistant II to support internal staff and external audiences including the public, students, postdocs, and faculty. This role contributes to team success in a hybrid environment, requiring a minimum of one day per week in the office. The Administrative Assistant II will provide part-time administrative support to the Education, Engagement, and Early Career Development (EdEC) Center at NSF NCAR, assisting the Management Team, Staff, and Sections. The EdEC Center leads NSF NCAR's education mission by engaging, training, and providing development opportunities for future scientists and engineers, the broader Earth system science community, and the public, focusing on fields like severe weather observation and modeling, space weather prediction, and AI/ML.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years relevant experience
  • Or a combination of education and experience.

  • A thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and practices, with the ability to reliably handle confidential information and assess unique situations appropriately.
  • Advanced knowledge of travel logistics, planning, and related administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage meeting logistics, room setups, catering, and note-taking for EdEC meetings and events (including up to 16 evening/weekend events annually), alongside general office support and database entry.
  • Provide comprehensive travel support, from planning and booking to expense reimbursement, and manage procurement tasks, stipends, and honoraria payments.
  • Partner with the administrative team, property administrators, section leads, and program specialists to ensure smooth day-to-day operations across EdEC programs.
