About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Counseling Services is seeking applications for two Administrative Assistant 2 positions. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The Administrative Assistant 2 provides front desk and administrative support to Counseling Services and serves as a primary point of contact for students seeking services. Responsibilities include answering multi-line phones, scheduling appointments, checking in clients, assisting with urgent and crisis walk-ins, and explaining Counseling Services to students and campus community members. Additional duties include scanning confidential records, data entry, typing and filing documents, maintaining office areas, shredding confidential materials, assisting clinicians with groups and outreach activities, and completing evening office closing procedures. The position requires strict adherence to confidentiality, strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a busy environment. The employee may encounter individuals experiencing emotional distress or mental health crises. Training and staff support are provided.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in using Microsoft programs
  • Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with students experiencing distress
  • Ability to follow established departmental procedures for providing assistance and support
