About The Position

A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks for an Oregon Ridge Nature Center Administrative Aide. Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan. Regular schedule: 34 hours per week. Plus County benefits. Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of general clerical experience in a position that requires significant time spent creating and/or transcribing documents using word processing software and extensive telephone and in-person customer service interaction.
  • Ability to type from plain copy at a rate of 40WPM.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in performing administrative duties specifically within a park or nature center setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of creating flyers and other marketing materials using Microsoft Publisher desktop publishing.

Responsibilities

  • Staff a front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, and provide helpful orientation information.
  • Respond to inquiries of a routine nature regarding department programs and policies in person, by telephone, or by electronic mail.
  • Use automated office systems, such as email, calendar/scheduling, Microsoft Office applications, and word processing software, to prepare flyers, letters, memos, meeting schedules, and other materials from drafts or specific instructions to support the center's communication efforts.
  • Create, duplicate, and distribute flyers, letters, memos, and other documents.
  • Establishes and maintains confidential alphabetical, chronological, or subject matter files and records.
  • Assists with registration of programs and/or special events.
  • Assists in the preparation of personnel-related documents and forms.
  • Operates office machinery, such as computers, photocopiers, calculators, telephones, scanners, and printers, requiring familiarity with basic office technology and physical ability to handle equipment safely.
  • Creates and maintains office spreadsheets, databases, and logs to track data using CivicRec and Microsoft Excel, such as attendance records or program schedules.
  • Maintains calendars, schedules appointments and meetings, and reserves meeting room facilities or space using CivicRec and Microsoft Outlook.
