About The Position

The Department Coordinator provides essential clerical and administrative support to an academic department, special program, or administrative office. This position is responsible for carrying out the full range of secretarial and administrative functions for an administrative head or a small to medium-sized unit, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations. Work assignments are often varied, complex, and long-term in nature, requiring the incumbent to plan, prioritize, and monitor tasks through to completion with accountability for results. Duties involve interpreting and applying policies and procedures, exercising sound judgment, and addressing a broad range of issues requiring critical thinking and effective coordination with individuals at all organizational levels. The incumbent may be involved in planning and coordinating unit operations, providing lead work direction, training, and assistance to other support staff, and serving as a resource to faculty, staff, and students. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships while ensuring that departmental objectives are met in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Three years of full-time general office experience which Includes operational or procedural administrative support work.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and the ability to independently perform all technical aspects of work assignments
  • Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages.
  • Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
  • Ability to: independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects; apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist; perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections; draft and compose correspondence and standard reports; and handle effectively a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
  • The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
  • Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
