About The Position

This position is responsible for the year-round interpretation and application of policy and procedures to complete a variety of claim types. The Adjuster acts as the Customer Service Office’s (CSO) primary contact for producers to discuss farm operation needs and provides SCIC program information to assist customers in selecting the best farm risk management solution. Utilizing the latest technology, the Adjuster performs field inspections for predation, wildlife, and third-party liability claims on farms, identifying losses and their causes to properly manage claims. This role involves preparing fieldwork documentation, inspecting customer property, measuring bins and acreages, gathering data for program indemnities, and completing documentation for the investigation phase of claims. The Adjuster enters data into the insurance system, calculates customer claims payments, and approves claims within an allowable limit. They also take the lead on highly sensitive and complex claims, propose recommendations for difficult claims, and verify post-harvest claims and production declarations. Additionally, the Adjuster promotes SCIC programs, provides training and support to adjusting staff, represents SCIC at provincial appeals, and acts as a contributing member of the CSO, which may include after-hours phone message checking and assisting colleagues. Travel outside the home office CSO boundaries and participation in program outreach functions and committees are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma, supplemented with a minimum of four years of direct agriculture experience on a farm operation OR a one-year post-secondary certificate specializing in agriculture with two years of related experience in the agriculture industry.
  • Working knowledge of Saskatchewan agriculture and modern farming practices/crops.
  • Ability to identify crop disease, insect damage, and other causes of loss.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to assess claims objectively and exercise sound judgment.
  • Communication skills, including the ability to conduct presentations and generate documents such as reports and research papers.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to gather information, respond to inquiries, and work with customers professionally.
  • Self-motivated, exhibiting initiative within both a team environment and independently.
  • Knowledge of and experience with mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license and a suitable vehicle to carry out responsibilities.
  • A criminal record check is required.
  • Crop Insurance or AgriStability Program account must be in good standing if the candidate participates in these programs.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply policy and procedures to complete a variety of claim types.
  • Act as the primary contact for producers to discuss farm operation needs and provide SCIC program information.
  • Perform field inspections for predation, wildlife, and third-party liability claims on farms.
  • Identify losses and their causes to properly manage claims.
  • Prepare fieldwork documentation and requirements in advance.
  • Inspect customer property for claims information, potentially dealing with dissatisfied customers.
  • Measure bins and acreages accurately and record information.
  • Gather data necessary to determine indemnities for SCIC administered programs.
  • Complete appropriate documentation for the investigation phase of claims, including detailed special reports, forms, field maps, bin maps, and plant count calculations.
  • Enter all documented data into the insurance system accurately and/or submit electronic documents for corporate imaging.
  • Calculate customer claims payments and approve claims within an allowable limit.
  • Take the lead on completing highly sensitive and complex claims.
  • Propose recommendations for finalization of difficult claims to the Field Supervisor and CSO Manager.
  • Verify post-harvest verification of paid customer claims, production declarations, and complete customer farm calls for contract administration tasks.
  • Promote SCIC programs to customers through customer service calls, farm visits, and other promotional opportunities.
  • Provide training and support to all adjusting staff on insurance policies and procedures.
  • Represent SCIC at customer provincial appeals when necessary.
  • Act as a contributing member of the CSO and provide support where needed, including checking phone messages after hours/on weekends when assigned and assisting colleagues.
  • Travel outside the boundaries of the home office CSO when assigned with appropriate notice.
  • Participate in program outreach functions to support the initiatives of the Customer Contact Strategy.
  • Participate in committees and work groups as required.
