About The Position

BYU is seeking an Adjunct Teaching professional for Physics & Astronomy, specifically for Physics Demonstration Courses. This role involves teaching introductory physics/physical science demonstration classes, providing demonstration-based instruction, and coordinating the preparation and delivery of teaching demonstrations in collaboration with faculty. The position requires maintaining existing demonstrations, assisting with new ones, and ensuring a professional and student-centered demo area. Applicants must be willing to relocate to Utah and support the university's unique mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or a closely related field (degree must be completed by the start date).
  • Experience with science demonstrations or teaching laboratory apparatus.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.

  • Preferred experience working with instructional demonstrations, teaching demonstrations, laboratory demonstrations, or similar hands-on educational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory physics/physical science demonstration classes, which include: PS100, Physics 105, 106, 121, 123, 220.
  • Provide demonstration-based instruction in support of assigned courses and instructional activities.
  • Coordinate the preparation and delivery of teaching demonstrations in collaboration with faculty.
  • Communicate with faculty regarding demonstration needs, scheduling, setup requirements, and instructional goals.
  • Maintain existing teaching demonstrations to ensure they remain functional, current, safe, and instructionally effective.
  • Assist with identifying, acquiring, and preparing new demonstrations that support course content and student learning.
  • Ensure demo area activities are conducted in a professional, organized, and student-centered manner.
