About The Position

The Excel Center, operated by Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused Adjunct Teacher to support adult learners on their path to earning a high school diploma. Working under the direction of a Lead Teacher, the Adjunct Teacher delivers engaging instruction, provides individualized support to students with varying academic needs, and helps create a positive learning environment where adult learners can succeed. This role is ideal for educators who are passionate about adult education, student achievement, and making a meaningful impact in their community. This term-based position includes 8 weeks of instruction, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 4:45pm-8:15pm, plus 2 hours of tutoring/office hours per week, and an Orientation week prior to the session starting. Additional time for meetings or professional development may also be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the subject area being taught
  • Current Maryland Teaching License or certification in the subject area
  • Ability to obtain required certification within one year may be considered for provisional employment
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Chrome, Drive, Docs, Slides, Gmail), Microsoft Teams, Word, and Excel
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and classroom management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of teaching experience after licensure
  • Experience teaching high school curriculum
  • Experience working with adult learners, non-traditional students, urban education settings, or adult education programs
  • Multiple Maryland teaching endorsements
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom instruction using lesson plans and instructional materials developed by the Lead Teacher
  • Facilitate learning activities aligned with Maryland Academic Standards
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including direct instruction, small-group learning, one-on-one support, and online learning tools
  • Support students with diverse academic backgrounds and learning needs
  • Administer assessments and monitor student progress
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Communicate student progress and academic concerns with students, colleagues, and school staff
  • Provide individualized support to help students stay engaged and meet learning goals
  • Communicate relevant student progress information to coaches and leadership staff as directed
  • Collaborate with Lead Teachers and instructional staff to support student achievement
  • Participate in school-wide activities, student orientation efforts, and retention initiatives as assigned
  • Attend required team meetings, professional development sessions, and training opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records and classroom data and provide updates to the Lead Teacher
