About The Position

The Adjunct Spanish Teacher develops, leads and delivers a robust Spanish Language and Culture program to Middle and High School students (grades 7-12). The courses include multiple levels of Spanish Language and Culture. Develops course syllabi and integrates authentic resources and technology into daily lessons. Uses the target language, Spanish, as exclusively as possible (90% plus) at all levels during instructional time. Participates in regular, purposeful pedagogy meetings and professional development based on the World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Engages and encourages students in the active process of learning. Integrates anti-racist teaching practices into the classroom and is committed to professional growth on equity and inclusion. Actively engages in the life of the school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, (Master’s Degree preferred) in Spanish, or in the teaching of Spanish, with native or near-native proficiency
  • Working knowledge of the ACTFL proficiency standards and currently teaches two to three modes of communication
  • Committed to academic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, and exceptional teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter and methodology
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and social justice both in and out of the classroom

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other members of the department in preparing lessons for teaching and learning in alignment with Oakwood’s mission and philosophy.
  • Works closely with students to help them develop critical thinking and research skills.
  • Evaluates student progress through a variety of assessment modes.
  • Maintains student records, including online grades.
  • Implements a wide array of classroom activities to address multiple learning styles.
  • Communicates regularly with student-support team members: parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
  • Provides ongoing student feedback, both informal and formal, including written narrative evaluations.
  • Meets with students and families, as needed.
  • Treats students equitably, is sincerely interested in them as individuals, and responds to their needs.
  • Serves as an Advisor to a grade-level group of students.
  • May serve as an Advisor to an Affinity Group.
  • Will teach in Oakwood’s Immersion program.
