About The Position

Lenoir Community College is seeking an Adjunct Social and Human Services Instructor to provide quality and engaging instruction to students. This role involves teaching seated and/or online courses, and potentially other modalities, to help students successfully complete their degree requirements. The instructor will be responsible for demonstrating and maintaining competence in subject matter mastery, teaching performance, evaluation of student learning, support of college policies, participation in college activities, and contributing to the growth of the college's mission and programs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, or social work from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor OR a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in human services, psychology, counseling, or social work (courses designated as graduate-level courses).
  • Current licenses/certifications required to teach within the program in the state of North Carolina.
  • Clinical experience is required.

  • Previous teaching experience at a community college or university.
  • Experience using instructional technologies.
  • Teaching online courses.
  • Supervision of co-op placements is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality and engaging instruction to LCC students through seated and/or online courses.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Employ instructional technology when appropriate.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives.
  • Develop and explain methods to fairly measure student progress.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • Return student work promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Submit final grades each semester.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment.
  • Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Substitute for other instructors when necessary.
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings and events as required.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information.
  • Support colleagues.
  • Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and plans.
  • Contribute to planning and development processes.
  • Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with college goals.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate course-specific instruction.
  • Assist in updating course content.
  • Attend meetings scheduled by the Program Chair or Dean.
  • Ensure contact information is updated each semester.
  • Utilize the current course shell.
  • Input notes and/or alerts in AVISO for students.
  • Ensure withdrawals are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure assignments are graded within 1 week of submittal.
  • Respond to student emails or phone calls within 48 hours (excluding weekends).
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
