About The Position

Lenoir Community College is seeking an Adjunct Psychology Instructor to provide quality and engaging instruction to students. This role involves teaching seated and/or online courses, utilizing creative modalities to ensure successful completion of degree requirements. The instructor will be responsible for demonstrating and maintaining competence in subject matter mastery, teaching performance, evaluation of student learning, support of college policies, participation in college activities, and contributing to the growth of the college's mission and programs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor in psychology or a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in psychology (courses designated as graduate-level psychology courses).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using instructional technologies.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • Previous teaching experience at a high school, community college, or university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality and engaging instruction to LCC students through seated and/or online courses, and other creative modalities.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in subject matter mastery, including thorough and accurate knowledge, interpretation and evaluation of theories, connecting subject matter with related fields, and staying current through professional development.
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, modifying them to meet diverse student needs.
  • Use instructional technology, such as the Internet and interactive technology, when appropriate.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
  • Establish and explain meaningful learning objectives.
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently, returning student work promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades on time.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Teach assigned classes in a multi-campus environment.
  • Teach credit or non-credit courses as needed.
  • Ensure accessibility to colleagues and students for advisement and consultation.
  • Prepare syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources.
  • Comply with responsibilities outlined in college documents.
  • Participate in meetings and events as required.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information.
  • Support colleagues.
  • Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication.
  • Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans.
  • Participate in professional activities that contribute to the college's educational goals.
  • Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with college goals, mission, and plans.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate course-specific instruction.
