About The Position

Concordia University Texas is seeking an Adjunct (part-time) Brass Instructor to teach an undergraduate brass music course and provide brass lessons on-ground at their main Austin location beginning Fall 2026. The role involves teaching Brass Methods for music education majors and providing applied brass instruction. The ideal candidate will have expertise across the brass family (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba) and professional-level performance expertise on at least one brass instrument.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related music field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency across the brass family sufficient to teach fundamentals and pedagogy at the collegiate level.
  • Professional-level performance expertise on at least one brass instrument.
  • Prior teaching experience in a collegiate, secondary, or private studio setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching a college-level Brass Methods or Brass Techniques course.
  • Doctorate (DMA or PhD) in Music or a related field.
  • Active involvement as an educator or performer in the Austin area.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Brass Methods for music education majors, covering fundamentals of tone production, embouchure, breathing, articulation, instrument maintenance, and pedagogy across brass instruments.
  • Provide applied brass instruction for majors, minors, and non-majors as assigned, focusing on technique, musicianship, repertoire, and preparation for juries and recitals.
  • Prepare students for juries, recitals, and applicable degree requirements.
  • Develop appropriate syllabi, repertoire, and assessments.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and accurate grading using Blackboard Ultra LMS.
  • Assist with auditions, prospective student lessons, and music recruitment activities as needed.
  • Complete required trainings and remain current with institutional expectations.
  • Respond consistently and professionally to communication from administration and students.
  • Foster a studio and classroom environment characterized by excellence, encouragement, and Christ-centered mentorship.
