About The Position

Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS) is seeking candidates for an adjunct instructor to teach two undergraduate physiology courses starting August 24th, 2026. The role involves providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences for undergraduate students in physiology lecture courses during the fall and overseeing physiology laboratory sections in the spring. Responsibilities include leading lectures and discussions, preparing teaching materials, creating or revising assignments and exams, using Drake's learning management system (LMS), and assessing student learning. Specific courses include PHAR 125 (4 credits) - Physiology (lecture/discussion) for first-year pharmacy students in Fall 2026, and HSCI 125 (3 credits) - Medical Physiology (lecture/laboratory) for health sciences undergraduates in Spring 2026. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational and time management abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in physiology, or a related field is minimally required.
  • Advanced knowledge of health care or health sciences broadly.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
  • A commitment to academic excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in physiology or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience in lecture and/or laboratory courses is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver the lecture and discussion components of the assigned courses.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of assigned labs for health sciences students (i.e., facilitate labs and/or courses, prep for labs/courses, assist instructor with other duties as assigned).
  • Assist with grading, reinforcement of lab materials, safety measures and precautions for all spaces and equipment utilized by the program.
