About The Position

Bergen Community College is accepting applications for adjunct positions for our Computer Animation program for Spring 2027. The mission of the department of visual arts at Bergen Community is to provide students with instruction, experience, and encouragement in the practice of visual art and the study of the history of art and visual culture. Our courses, taught by professors who are also active professionals in their fields, impart current information and techniques and promote the development of students’ thinking about art, media, and culture. The Visual Arts Department is located on the main campus in Paramus in West Hall. Facilities include state-of-the-art studios for computer animation, computer graphics, drawing/painting, digital and darkroom photography, and digital projection for the teaching of the history of art.
The Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.)- Computer Animation program option is designed to provide students with the coursework needed to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer animation and motion graphics. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a pathway to careers in 2D &3D animation, 3D modeling, video editing, compositing and rendering. Students can take coursework and concentrated options in various aspects of motion graphics and interactive multimedia. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with Bergen Community College faculty and Career Services as they begin to explore career options.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of drawing/painting experience and a BFA in the field of discipline (for drawing/painting courses).
• At least 5 years of industry experience and a BFA in the field of discipline (for Computer Animation and Graphic Design courses).
• A minimum of 2 years college level teaching experience is preferred.
• Well versed in MODO or Blender for 3D (preferably MODO) and the Adobe Creative Cloud package including Photoshop, Illustrator, Character Animator, Animate, After Effects & Premiere for 2D (for Computer Animation courses).
• Well versed in the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (for Graphic Design courses).
• Ability to work with a diverse range of students.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to create a welcoming and supportive classroom environment.

Nice To Haves

• Masters degree is preferred (for all disciplines).
• Additional experience in web, mobile and coding applications (for Computer Animation and Graphic Design courses).

Responsibilities

• Teach drawing and painting courses within the Visual Arts Department, including Drawing Fundamentals, Life Drawing, Painting I, and Advanced Painting classes.
• Teach courses within the AAS Computer Animation program, including 2D Animation I & II, 3D Animation I & II, Interactive Multimedia, Computer Imaging, Illustration, Layout and Sound Design.
• Teach courses within the AAS Graphic Design/Computer Graphics program, including Typography, Web Development, 2-D design, Graphic Design, Illustration and Layout.
• Conduct studio-based classes involving both lecture and hands-on in-class work with students.
• Work with a diverse range of students.
• Communicate effectively with students.
• Create a welcoming and supportive classroom environment for all students.

Benefits

• Adjunct rates range from $922 to $960.
• Pay rates are $938 a credit for adjuncts who have obtained an Associates, $950 for a Bachelor's and $960 for a Master's.
