About The Position

This position involves delivering educational lectures and lab/clinical training opportunities for OTA students in compliance with ACOTE accreditation standards and Walters State Community College policies and procedures. The role requires teaching classroom, laboratory, online, and/or clinical instruction in assigned Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) courses, developing and implementing effective teaching strategies, evaluating student performance, and maintaining accurate records. The instructor must adhere to all college and program policies, maintain class schedules, and arrive early to prepare for students.

Requirements

  • Must possess an Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited college or university by a USDE recognized regional or national accrediting body.
  • Licensed or license eligible in State of Tennessee as OT or OTA
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time work experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Documentation of knowledge and noted clinical experience in pediatric occupational therapy (e.g., length of employment, continuing education, certifications), including assessment, intervention planning, developmental progression, and therapeutic techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Documentation of expertise in the assigned area of teaching responsibility
  • Teaching experience with a group of individuals, preferably in the field of Occupational Therapy.
  • Current NBCOT OTA certification

Responsibilities

  • Teach classroom, laboratory, online, and/or clinical instruction in assigned Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course objectives.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies that promote student engagement, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, practical assessments, and/or other evaluation methods; provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, clinical competencies, and other required documentation.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Walters State Community College, the Health Division, and the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Comply with class schedules as to dates of classes, time in class and final exam schedule. Start class in a timely manner. Arrive early to class to be prepared for the students.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
