About The Position

The adjunct faculty individual is a registered nurse responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating students in the designated clinical or lab areas. This role involves ensuring students perform skills or services in direct client care only after receiving instruction and demonstrating proficiency. The instructor will maintain skills checklists, assign clients and tasks based on student assessment, and confer with faculty regarding clinical plans and student assignments. Additionally, the role includes designating preceptors for students and participating in orientation programs for faculty, preceptors, and students.

Requirements

  • Hold a current unencumbered Registered Nursing (RN) license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse.
  • Possess a graduate degree in nursing; OR a baccalaureate degree in nursing and be actively enrolled in a graduate degree program; OR a baccalaureate degree in nursing and hold alternative credentials.
  • Provide evidence of experience in the specialty area in which they will supervise students; clinical experience for quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, teaching, and evaluating students in designated clinical or lab areas.
  • Ensuring students perform only skills or services in direct client care for which they have received instruction and have been found proficient by the instructor.
  • Maintaining a skills checklist for each student detailing the performance of skills for which the student has had faculty supervised clinical and didactic preparation.
  • Assigning clients and tasks based on assessment and evaluation of the student's clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Confers with corresponding course to clinical course faculty regarding clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical agencies, and assigned group of students.
  • Designating a preceptor for each student and communicating such assignment with the preceptor.
  • Participating in an orientation program for faculty, preceptors, and students.
  • Becoming familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the college and nursing program.
  • Becoming familiar with the college catalog and college policies.
