About The Position

Muskegon Community College is seeking candidates for an Adjunct Librarian position for Fall 2025. This role functions within the Adjunct Instructor Pools, allowing department chairs to review applicant materials in advance of a need. The successful candidate will be responsible for reference desk services and supervising student workers in the absence of their supervisor, with possible bibliographic instruction and/or cataloging support. Variable hours may include weekends, evenings, and/or daytime hours, dependent on library needs and librarian availability. Unofficial transcripts must be submitted.

Requirements

  • An MLIS or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited school.
  • Commitment to the community college philosophy and information literacy.
  • Familiarity with research databases, OCLC and Microsoft products such as Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive and positive working environment.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the college.
  • Ability to travel to all campus locations required.

Responsibilities

  • Weekend and evening assignments as scheduled.
  • Answer reference questions from students, faculty, staff, and community members regarding research needs.
  • Assist students in the research process: topic selection, evaluation of sources, and proper documentation of references.
  • Have a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Have excellent technology skills and expertise in database searching and the utilization of Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Assist students with research databases.
  • Present information literacy instruction to classes.
  • Assist with cataloging using OCLC and Sirsi WorkFlows.
  • Supervise student workers in the absence of their supervisor.
  • Make recommendations for book purchases.
  • Have knowledge of information literacy and promote the concept on the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
