About The Position

Goucher College seeks two part-time lecturers to teach one or two 4-credit first-year writing courses this fall. The course title and catalogue course description is below: WRT 181: Writing Studies (4 credits) This course welcomes you into the Goucher Community of Writers and to the creative processes of inquiry, composition, collaboration, revision, and editing. You will develop strategies to read perceptively, think deeply, and write with clarity about complex issues. This course emphasizes research—the thoughtful, responsible use of sources that is part of joining ongoing academic conversations. In this intensive workshop, you will develop the habits of mind and practice of craft that characterize academic writing in all its complicated and graceful forms. The instructor should be available for orientation and in-person teaching starting in mid-August of 2026. Pending a successful performance review, there will be the possibility to teach one or two courses in Spring 2027.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition, or a related field. A graduate degree in English that included training in writing pedagogy is acceptable.
  • No less than one year of experience teaching academic and/or professional writing at the college level.
  • Experience teaching in a diverse learning environment or a willingness to engage in antiracist pedagogy and assessment.
  • Applicants must reside in: Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA.
