About The Position

The Biology Department at Barnard College seeks a part-time instructor to teach undergraduate courses during the 2026-2027 academic year. Specifically, for Fall 2026, the instructor will teach BIOL BC1501: Intro Lab in Organismal & Evolutionary Biology. All sections occur weekly on weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm. The lab associate must also attend a weekly prep meeting on Fridays from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in a related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • CV
  • Statement of interest (including teaching philosophy, most relevant prior teaching experience, advanced pedagogical or relevant training)
  • Identify three references, including one with direct knowledge of their teaching capabilities (for finalists)

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses
  • Grading lab reports and in-class work
  • Responding to student questions and emails
  • Working with a team of instructors and staff
  • Watching/reading all pre-lab materials
  • Attending a mandatory 1-hour preparatory session on Friday afternoons at 2:30 pm
