About The Position

The Core Curriculum, Astronomy, and Physics programs at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, Iowa), along with its affiliate, Mount Mercy University (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) seek qualified applicants to serve as adjunct instructors for Astronomy and Physics courses in the Core Curriculum. By applying, candidates will be considered for inclusion in an adjunct faculty pool. Positions are filled on a semester-by-semester basis, depending on programmatic needs. Specific course assignments and formats, including online and face-to-face instruction, vary by semester based on teaching needs. Openings develop on a periodic basis. We are seeking candidates with expertise and interest in teaching one or more of the following courses: ASTR 145. Science in Our Lives fulfills the Evidence-Based Reasoning: Natural World Core requirement. This course addresses the central question: "How are our lives shaped by scientific development?" Students discover the powerful ways that science shapes our lives in this course, by exploring the significant impacts of scientific developments on our daily routine, our community, and the global stage. Through a variety of activities, including a final project focused on "Science in Our Lives," students critically evaluate a scientific development and its future outcomes. PHYS 146. Thinking Like a Scientist fulfills the Evidence-Based Reasoning: Natural World Core requirement. This course explores the guiding question: "How can thinking like a scientist help me understand the world around me?" The course introduces students to scientific thinking through the exploration of real-world phenomena. Students ask questions, investigate scientific ideas, analyze evidence, and communicate findings. Through hands-on investigations and analysis of scientific data, students learn how scientific reasoning can be used to understand and explain the world around them.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or at least 18 graduate credit hours in the specific subject area or a closely related field.
  • Reside in one of the following authorized states for online adjunct teaching assignments: AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, ND, SD, TX, VA, WV, or WI.
