About The Position

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. This role involves fostering student learning through diverse instructional strategies, assessing student progress, managing the classroom environment, participating in team activities, engaging with the community and industry partners, supporting student success, and pursuing continuous professional development. The position may involve teaching in various formats including hybrid, in-person, virtual, and online courses, and requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge and certifications relevant to the discipline.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience relevant to the discipline and topic (for Specialized Training Seminars).
  • Department of Justice (DOJ) certifications required for the discipline being taught (for Jail Academy Instructors).
  • Completion of the DOJ’s Instructor Development course (for Jail Recruit Academy applicants).
  • Possession of proper DOJ certifications for the Academy topics being taught (for Jail Recruit Academy applicants).
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Ability to engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.

  • Teaching or training experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement.
  • Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
  • Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful.
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records.
  • Maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
  • Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners.
  • Proactively promote the College and our programs.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
