About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor of CDL position is a part-time, fixed-term faculty role responsible for providing classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students in the Commercial Driving Program. This role involves teaching career technical education courses, maintaining student records, and potentially developing program curriculum. The position may offer remote or hybrid work options within specific states, subject to approval. The instructor will also support CDL State of New Mexico Examiners Program as assigned, prepare and teach courses, evaluate student performance, and mentor students. The role requires timely submission of grades and maintenance of log books, as well as addressing student issues or referring them to the Transportation Program Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current CDL Licensure.
  • Five years’ experience in Commercial Driving industry as an operator.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening test.
  • Must successfully complete Defensive Driving Course.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree with three years’ experience in Commercial Driving industry as an operator.
  • Additional experience in the field along with demonstrable teaching ability.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering classroom and/or behind the wheel instruction of students in the Commercial Driving Program.
  • Effective teaching and recordkeeping associated with college-level career technical educational courses.
  • Program and curriculum development.
  • Maintaining a record system for student achievement.
  • Delivering/creating customized training for local industry.
  • Supporting CDL State of New Mexico Examiners Program as assigned.
  • Preparing and teaching courses.
  • Delivering lectures, assignments and tests.
  • Evaluating and recording student performance.
  • Teaching hands-on driving skills in an operational semi-truck.
  • Tutoring and mentoring students.
  • Submitting grades by deadline.
  • Keeping current e-log and paper log books.
  • Resolving student issues and concerns or referring to Transportation Program Director.
  • Performing related duties.
