About The Position

The School of Design and Manufacturing invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program. Position requires teaching undergraduate-level lecture and laboratory coursework in a "hands-on" academic environment. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026 at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest. The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H-1 B, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in the field or a closely related area to teach college credit courses at the associate degree level (1XX, 2XX).
  • Master's degree in a field or a closely related area, or a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in the field to teach college credit courses at the baccalaureate level (3XX, 4XX).
  • Terminal degree in the field or a closely related area, or a practice terminal qualification as defined by the college faculty qualification guideline to teach college credit courses at the graduate level.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher out of the field, an associate's degree in the field, and 5 years of relevant industry experience to teach at the associate's level.
  • A bachelor's degree out of field and 7 years of relevant industry experience to teach at the associate's level.
  • An associate's degree in the field and 7 years of relevant industry experience to teach at the associate's level.
  • A master's or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor's or associate's degree in the field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to the course taught to teach at the baccalaureate level.
  • A bachelor's degree in the field and 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to the course taught; or an associate's degree in the field, and any baccalaureate degree, and 7 years of relevant industry experience to teach at the baccalaureate level.
  • Discipline-specific certifications, licensure, and/or other approved non-degree credentials.
  • Breadth and depth of experience outside of the classroom in real-world situations relevant to the discipline or subfield for the specific course or courses they will teach.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
  • Must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering courses utilizing effective methods that ensure that all course outcomes are met, and delivering courses in a classroom format.
  • Regularly scheduled office hours (at times convenient for students).
  • Participation in traditional academic functions (e.g., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
  • May be required to teach off-campus or online.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
  • Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
