About The Position

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. This role involves fostering student learning through diverse instructional strategies, assessing student progress, managing the classroom environment, participating in team efforts, engaging with the community and industry partners, supporting student success, pursuing professional development, and potentially developing curriculum. The position requires a minimum of an Associate degree or the degree/licensure level at which the instructor is teaching, along with significant occupational experience in the relevant field. Instructors must also meet specific college and accreditation standards, possess a valid driver's license, and demonstrate proficiency in learning management systems and communication skills. The role may involve various work environments, including classrooms, outdoors, and potentially virtual settings, and may require travel.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or the degree/licensure level at which the adjunct instructor is teaching at minimum (Bachelor’s degree in related and appropriate field preferred).
  • Minimum of at least 4,000 hours occupational experience in a target job for the program being taught within the last five years.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
  • Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Records Check.
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  • Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related and appropriate field
  • 3-5 years occupational experience preferred.
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement.
  • Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
  • Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful.
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
  • Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners.
  • Proactively promote the College and our programs.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
