About The Position

This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in courses supporting the oil and gas industry and related energy sectors that utilize similar technical skills. Responsibilities may also include developing and delivering customized workforce training for industry partners based on current workforce needs. Instruction is delivered primarily in person within the Petroleum Technology Programs and may include classroom, laboratory, and field-based learning environments. San Juan College may approve remote or hybrid work for adjunct employees within New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas (states subject to change at any time). All requests for remote work must be approved in advance by the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work options for locations outside of the United States are not permitted.

Requirements

  • A combination of education, industry training, certifications, and professional experience sufficient to demonstrate competency in the occupational field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and translate industry experience into hands-on learning for students with varying levels of experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry-recognized certifications and demonstrated experience in oil and gas production, operations, drilling, instrumentation, or related technical areas are preferred.
  • Seven or more years of relevant oil and gas industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction for assigned courses; prepares lectures, laboratory exercises, and assignments; monitors and records student attendance; evaluates student performance; and maintains instructional laboratories and equipment.
  • Communicates effectively with students, prospective students, and industry partners regarding course content, expectations, and training needs.
  • Collaborates with other instructors and the Program Coordinator to develop course and training schedules.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new and updated technical courses and customized workforce training responsive to industry needs.
  • Works with the Program Coordinator to address student concerns related to assigned courses and training.
  • Performs related duties.
