About The Position

Bethune-Cookman University is seeking an Adjunct Instructor of Computer Science to teach at the undergraduate level. The role involves establishing and sustaining an outstanding research program, proposal and grant writing activities, and involvement in department activities, student advisement, student recruitment, and mentoring students. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching at a liberal arts school and be prepared to affirm and support the Christian and liberal arts mission of the university.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or closely related field and extensive related work experience or professional certifications (full Stack, CompTIA, CCNA, etc.).
  • Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Strong commitment to teaching at a liberal arts school.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the college level is required.
  • Must be prepared to affirm and support the Christian and liberal arts mission of Bethune-Cookman University.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while teaching classes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff in person and through electronic communication.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, projector, and other instructional technology for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to move throughout classrooms, offices, and campus facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, books, or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read printed materials, computer screens, and classroom presentations.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree in Computer Science.
  • Desired areas of interest are artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mobile applications development.
  • MS or PhD in computer science.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with areas of specialization that complement existing faculty.
  • A record of research and publication is desirable.
