About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing daily lesson plans and activities for the proper management of assigned classes, focusing primarily on airframe-related coursework and laboratory instruction. The instructor is responsible for creating a classroom environment that implements best practices, supports industry standards, and engages students in career and technical education. The instructor will also maintain industry and required certification(s) for specialized fields.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (or ability to complete an associate degree within six months of hire).
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant aircraft mechanic certificates
  • Knowledge of current practices that promote safety in aviation maintenance
  • Three years of relevant work experience in the aviation maintenance industry or a related field.
  • Demonstrate how to diagnose and repair defects in aircraft and equipment
  • Demonstrate current knowledge in course content and effectiveness in teaching assigned subjects.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and able to use discretion to determine the need for administrative involvement.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • FAA Aircraft Mechanic Certifications in both Airframe and Powerplant
  • FAA Aircraft Mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA)
  • Current and recent experience as a FAA Aviation Mechanic
  • Five years of work experience as a certified airframe and powerplant aircraft mechanic in both general and airline operations.
  • Recent experience maintaining, troubleshooting, or instructing in aircraft airframe systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, environmental control, pressurization, and auxiliary systems.
  • Electrical Troubleshooting Experience working on avionics technology
  • FAA Private Pilot Certification or higher-level pilot credential
  • Basic Ground Instructor (BGI) or Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) Certification
  • Leadership or managerial experience
  • Participation in professional organizations related to teaching area.
  • Teaching experience in the career and technical education field.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas).
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction which is reflective of current discipline standards and is accurate, relevant, and engaging using college–approved curriculum and resources.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum to support program outcomes and accreditation requirements.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of course outlines using approved course descriptions, learning outcomes, and program objectives.
  • Actively engage and interact with students using intentional best practice teaching strategies.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment with needed materials and supplies.
  • Communicate and collaborate with full-time instructors in creating and implementing course curriculum, objectives and materials.
  • Present course content in an unbiased and civil manner, while demonstrating respect, helpfulness, and responsiveness toward students.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, positive attitude, and supportive culture.
  • Maintain appropriate record keeping for assigned classes to include student attendance, record of grades earned, and other related classroom information.
  • Uphold departmental policy and expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members, as well as records and all information.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
