About The Position

Iowa Western Community College Continuing Education is seeking a qualified Adjunct Heavy Equipment Instructor to deliver classroom and simulator-based instruction for the Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate Program. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level employment in the construction, excavation, utility, transportation, and earthmoving industries through a combination of safety training, equipment theory, operational procedures, and simulator-based skill development. The instructor will work closely with industry partners and field instructors to ensure students gain the knowledge and competencies necessary for successful employment in heavy equipment operations.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operations, construction, excavation, utility work, crane operation, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction site safety and industry best practices.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Ability to operate and instruct using simulator technology and classroom learning systems.
  • Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S. driver's license & good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom instruction related to heavy equipment operation and construction industry practices.
  • Facilitate simulator-based training utilizing CM Labs heavy equipment simulators.
  • Teach equipment safety, hazard recognition, and job site best practices.
  • Instruct students on equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and equipment operating principles.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and training records.
  • Assist in developing and updating curriculum to align with industry standards and workforce needs.
  • Coordinate with hands-on training instructors and industry partners to ensure consistency between classroom and field instruction.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that emphasizes safety, professionalism, and employability.
  • Participate in program meetings and advisory committee discussions as requested.
