About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach remotely in the Data Analytics, Master of Science program. This position is specifically to teach at Pearl City, HI. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, with a global presence and a focus on flexibility and options. The typical UMGC student is an adult learner juggling a career, family, and other priorities, with a significant portion being full-time workers, parents, and minority students. UMGC is also a leading provider of higher education to the U.S. military. The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC emphasizes scholar-practitioners who are actively engaged in their fields and wish to mentor the next generation of professionals. Faculty are expected to actively engage students, guide collaboration and application of learning, provide constructive feedback, demonstrate current subject-matter expertise, and offer feedback on curriculum.

Requirements

  • Terminal Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience teaching within online higher education settings.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in Data Analytics, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
  • Must be able to teach at Pearl City, HI.

  • Successful completion of a two-week online new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Certifications in ML, AI, Data Science from Microsoft, IBM, Google, AWS.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students though frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
