About The Position

Adjunct Faculty in Sociology and Behavioral Sciences at The Undergraduate School, UMGC Europe, located in Vilseck, Germany. This position is specifically for on-site teaching in Vilseck. Applicants must be local and maintain their own legal status in Germany. Some teaching locations may not be accessible by public transportation, so candidates must be able to travel reliably to assigned work locations. UMGC empowers nontraditional learners, including a large military-affiliated population, by bridging classroom theory and real-world career success. The role focuses on mentoring, facilitating, and providing high-quality feedback using pre-designed course models, standardized rubrics, OER materials, and digital textbooks. UMGC invests in faculty through comprehensive online orientation and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in Sociology, Behavioral Sciences, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant academic and/or professional experience in the field.
  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.
  • A deeply student-centered approach rooted in empathy, flexibility, professional integrity, and cultural responsiveness.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online asynchronous and/or synchronous), hybrid, and/or face-to-face learning environments.
  • Prior postsecondary teaching experience.
  • Active engagement in your discipline's professional community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active classroom presence at least 5 days per week, introducing yourself with a welcome announcement and driving discussions.
  • Enrich the pre-built curriculum with your own professional expertise and real-world examples.
  • Foster an inclusive, culturally responsive environment where adult learners feel supported and motivated.
  • Respond to inquiries, return feedback, and post final grades within the expected timeframe.
  • Use available data tools to track student engagement and conduct proactive outreach to at-risk students.
  • Partner with success coaches, academic staff, and portfolio directors to refer struggling students to UMGC support resources.
  • Participate in UMGC's vibrant faculty community, including the Program Hub and ongoing training.
