About The Position

The Undergraduate School at UMGC Europe is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Art and Drawing on-site in Spangdahlem, Germany. This position is for local applicants only, and UMGC does not sponsor logistical support. Applicants must maintain their own legal status in Germany. Some teaching locations may not be accessible by public transportation, so candidates must be able to reliably travel to assigned work locations. UMGC is an open-access, minority-serving institution founded in 1947, serving over 90,000 nontraditional learners worldwide, with a significant military-affiliated population. As an Adjunct Faculty member, you will partner with students to bridge classroom theory and real-world career success. UMGC provides a standardized, pre-designed course model with unified rubrics, OER materials, library resources, and digital textbooks, allowing faculty to focus on mentoring, facilitating, and providing high-quality feedback. Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design from an accredited institution of higher learning or a Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning with at least 15 graduate credit hours in studio arts directly relevant to teaching drawing or photography.
  • Relevant academic and/or professional experience in the field.
  • Experience with digital photography tools and editing software if seeking to teach Basics of Photography.
  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.
  • A deeply student-centered approach rooted in empathy, flexibility, professional integrity, and cultural responsiveness.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online (asynchronous and/or synchronous), hybrid, and/or face-to-face learning environments.
  • Prior postsecondary teaching experience.
  • Active engagement in your discipline's professional community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active classroom presence at least 5 days per week, introducing yourself with a welcome announcement and driving discussions.
  • Enrich the pre-built curriculum with your own professional expertise and real-world examples.
  • Foster an inclusive, culturally responsive environment where adult learners feel supported and motivated.
  • Respond to inquiries, return feedback, and post final grades within the expected timeframe.
  • Use available data tools to track student engagement and conduct proactive outreach to at-risk students.
  • Partner with success coaches, academic staff, and portfolio directors to refer struggling students to UMGC support resources.
  • Participate in UMGC's vibrant faculty community, including the Program Hub and ongoing training.
