About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in the United Kingdom for the Writing and Speech programs. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, serving approximately 90,000 students globally. The university is a leading provider of higher education to the U.S. military. As an adjunct faculty member, you will be expected to actively engage students, guide them in applying their learning, provide constructive feedback, and demonstrate current subject-matter expertise. You will also provide feedback to your program chair on curricular improvements. The Writing and Speech programs offer courses in these disciplines, with more information available via provided links. New faculty are required to complete an online orientation, FacDev 122, as a condition of hire. The position will remain open until filled.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Writing, Speech, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in a related field.
  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.
  • Local applicants only.
  • Must have own legal status in the country of application.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Adjunct faculty positions are not eligible for UMGC sponsored logistical support.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
