About The Position

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School. This role involves facilitating student learning, utilizing technology, supporting student success, developing course materials, maintaining records, and engaging with students in a professional and cooperative manner. The faculty member must also ensure knowledge of and implement emergency and safety procedures for all learning environments. Additionally, responsibilities include academic coaching, monitoring student performance, maintaining office hours, and promoting student recruitment and retention. All responsibilities must be conducted in compliance with FERPA and other applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • A qualified faculty member teaching Surgical Technology courses meets the Surgical Technology program standard or the course standard, whichever standard applies to the specific course.
  • A qualified faculty member teaching SURG 112 (lab course) meets the course standard through one of two routes: Meets the Surgical Technology Program Faculty/Instructor Standard or greater, or Possesses an earned associate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and Possesses a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA), and Has a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Works with students to remove barriers to retention and completion of the program.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with college policies, campus guidelines, and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
  • Provide academic-related coaching and academic monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
  • Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
  • Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours in accordance with campus expectations and the faculty loading policy in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 7.2).
  • Promote and assist in student recruitment, retention, and successful completion of programs, including outreach to students by phone, technology tools, and other electronic means.
