About The Position

The Department of Education at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is seeking an Adjunct Instructor in Special Education to teach an undergraduate course in Assistive Technology during the Spring 2027 semester. This position will teach one course on campus, meeting twice weekly. The course focuses on using assistive technology and evidence-based strategies to support K–12 students with disabilities and learning needs. Topics include identifying assistive technology, assessing needs, integrating technology into instruction, and evaluating its effectiveness. The goal is to prepare students to identify, assess, select, integrate, and evaluate assistive technology for diverse learners.

Requirements

A master’s degree in Special Education, Education, Educational Technology, or a closely related field.
Relevant professional experience supporting K–12 students with disabilities.
Knowledge of assistive technology, accessibility tools, and instructional strategies used to support students with diverse learning needs.
Commitment to using current, evidence-based pedagogical practices, including effective course and curriculum design.
Commitment to student learning, mentorship, and developing meaningful professional relationships with students.

Responsibilities

Teach one undergraduate course in Assistive Technology during the Spring 2027 semester.
Teach the course in person on the Saint Joseph’s College campus.
Meet twice each week for 1 hour and 45 minutes per class: Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:45pm-4:30pm.
Focus the course on the use of assistive technology and evidence-based instructional strategies to support K–12 students with disabilities and other learning needs.
Cover topics including identifying assistive technology devices and services, assessing student and instructional needs, selecting appropriate technology supports, integrating technology into instruction, and evaluating the effectiveness of assistive technology for diverse learners.
Prepare students to identify assistive technology devices and services that support students with academic, behavioral, communication, and access needs.
Prepare students to assess student and instructional needs to determine appropriate assistive technology supports.
Prepare students to select and apply research-based practices for integrating assistive technology into instruction.
Prepare students to integrate assistive technology into the instructional process across K–12 learning environments.
Prepare students to evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of assistive technology supports for learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, abilities, and needs.
