About The Position

An adjunct faculty member will be responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in his/her particular discipline. The individual is expected to exercise professionalism in all activities related to the role of academician, including those concerned with the various duties assigned by the Department Chair, and any involvement with colleagues, peers, community and students. The position of an adjunct faculty member is temporary, and is contracted as needed. Adjunct employees are compensated at a rate of $2000 per 3 ILH. NOTE: Job descriptions and essential functions are subject to change due to advances in technology, utilization of workforce, and other factors which may impact the College’s need to modify position requirements.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated teaching skills and subject knowledge, preferably at the community college level.
  • Degree and credit hour requirements must be met in accordance with the criteria for accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
  • 18 graduate semester hours in psychology, social work, or mental health counseling, plus master’s degree OR master’s or doctorate degree in psychology, social work, mental health counseling, human relations, organizational behavior, or conflict management.
  • Must demonstrate effective use of instructional technology and be familiar with current office hardware and software.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with students, staff and the public.
  • Regularly required to touch, handle, feel or reach objects, tools and controls; and verbally communicate with students and co-workers.
  • May be frequently required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Independently transport oneself to various campus locations on a 100-acre campus.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, identification and discernment of colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches all courses as assigned.
  • Maintains attendance and punctuality.

  • Delivers course content in an effective manner to support student learning and meets the designated student learning outcomes.

  • Adheres to College Rules and Procedures, which reflect updated Federal, state, and local legislation/regulations and College policy that governs the educational process.
  • Maintains accurate student records for grading and attendance purposes, submitting attendance, grades, and other reports within college deadlines.
  • During periods of planned absences, coordinates with the respective Department Chair or supervising academic administrator for qualified substitute instructors and provides instructional materials, protocols, and directions to ensure consistent and sequential classroom instruction.
  • Promotes and maintains a healthy and safe educational and work environment, free from harassment and discrimination.
  • Demonstrates professional growth and development by updating knowledge of subject matter and using effective teaching techniques.
  • Develops, maintains and promotes a positive working environment among departmental faculty.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the respective Department Chair or other supervising academic administrator.
