About The Position

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for instructing the curriculum and assessing student learning. They also advance the institution's mission through research, scholarly activities, and citizenship, as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. This specific position assists the course director in providing instruction to students during lecture and lab activities for courses such as PAS 5103 Pharmacology I, PAS 5104 Holistic Clinical Medicine I, and/or PAS 5105 Holistic Patient Evaluation Procedures I. The role is part-time, requiring six to eight hours per week for a 15-week period in the Fall trimester (September-December).

Requirements

  • Must be either a physician or PA.
  • If a PA, must be NCCPA Certified and State Licensed.
  • Three years full-time experience in clinical medicine.
  • Possess earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the field in which they are teaching from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for teaching health science students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to function in a team.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction of the curriculum and assessment of student learning.
  • Advancing the mission of the institution through research and scholarly activities and citizenship.
  • Assisting the course director in providing instruction to students during lecture and lab activities.
  • Planning and presenting course material.
  • Establishing and communicating course objectives and requirements to students.
  • Selecting and ordering texts and supplemental materials.
  • Preparing, administering, and grading papers and examinations.

  • Providing students with appropriate, current course material consistent with the overall curriculum.
  • Assuring student comprehension and competency.
  • Providing unbiased outcome assessments.
  • Demonstrating mastery of subject matter, analytical approach, recognition and evaluation of variant interpretations of data, and integration of current knowledge.
  • Clearly explaining expectations and subject matter.
  • Recognizing student levels of comprehension.
  • Defining objectives, summarizing major points, organizing material logically, and emphasizing important ideas.
  • Encouraging student participation and interaction.
  • Being sensitive to class response.
  • Dealing with students ethically.
  • Allotting ample time for consultation.
  • Seeking a professional rapport with students.
  • Motivating and academically challenging students.
  • Being dedicated to subject material and the teaching profession.
  • Displaying self-confidence.
  • Communicating a sense of enthusiasm for the pursuit of knowledge.
  • Academically assisting, advising, and counseling students regarding their work in classes.
  • Recognizing when a student requires professional assistance with problems of a personal or academic nature.
  • Engaging in basic science or clinical research.

  • Scholarly media productions within one’s area of expertise.
  • Lending talents to benefit the College community, the professional and/or academic community, and the local community.
