About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in Okinawa for the Music program. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners, serving approximately 90,000 students globally. The university is a leading provider of higher education to the U.S. military. The adjunct faculty role involves engaging students, guiding them in applying their learning, providing constructive feedback, demonstrating subject-matter expertise, and offering feedback on curriculum. The Music Program at UMGC offers courses with descriptions available online. New faculty are required to complete an online orientation.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Music Studies or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in Business Management or related field.
• Local applicants only.
• Applicants must have and be able to maintain their own legal status in the country in which they apply to teach.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
• If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
