About The Position

Dominican University invites applications for an adjunct faculty member in mathematics. Responsibilities include teaching mathematical concepts for first-year undergraduate students. The start date for the position is January 11, 2027. Adjunct Faculty appointments are per semester and contingent upon enrollment. Instructors are sought for the following course: MATH 101: Mathematics Academy (4 credits) Module content includes basic skills in mathematics and intermediate algebra; college algebra content that is not present in the Elementary Mathematical Modeling course. Students work through a sequence of modules. Each module has a post-assessment so that students can demonstrate proficiency in each topic. Students meet in a classroom and bring their computers to work through modules and have an instructor and peer tutors providing individualized instruction. Module content includes basic skills in mathematics and intermediate algebra skills. MATH 151: Contemporary Quantitative Mathematics (4 credit hours) This course introduces fundamental concepts in set theory, logic, probability, and statistics, with applications across multiple disciplines. Students will explore how sets and Venn diagrams model relationships in real-world situations, how symbolic logic and truth tables support clear reasoning and structured argumentation, and how probability and counting principles are used to analyze risk, uncertainty, and decision-making. Building on these foundations, the course examines statistical methods for gathering, interpreting, and presenting data, including measures of central tendency, variability, normal distributions, and correlation. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary relevance: in cybersecurity, legal studies, health studies, and in translation and interpretation. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with mathematical reasoning tools that enhance problem-solving and critical thinking in diverse professional fields.
