About The Position

Adjunct instructor serving the Toledo and/or Findlay campuses, with primary responsibility for face-to-face instruction. Courses are primarily scheduled during daytime hours, with some evening assignments. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate business courses in areas such as management, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership, quality management, and other related business disciplines. The position may require classroom and/or online instruction in the discipline and calls for strong disciplinary knowledge, high-quality instruction, and the use of appropriate teaching practices for different learning styles. The instructor develops and teaches courses in accordance with department guidelines, prepares course materials and evaluations, assesses student work, maintains attendance and grade records, communicates with students and department staff, and participates in department-related activities. The instructor is expected to support the College and School missions and values and to demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm for teaching, interpersonal skills, organization, patience, and flexibility.

Requirements

Master's degree in the discipline or an MBA.
Three to five years of professional industry experience in a discipline-related field.
Knowledge of the discipline and ability to provide high-quality instruction.
Knowledge of and experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and/or other required programs, Blackboard, and Owens email.
Ability to integrate varied teaching methodologies to facilitate student learning.
Understanding of community college students' needs.
Ability to manage a classroom, organize and present material, design lessons and activities, and monitor student behavior and performance.
Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
Ability to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses and provide feedback that facilitates learning.
Ability to evaluate student work fairly using Department guidelines.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to integrate appropriate teaching practices for different learning styles.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Support the College Core Values, College Mission and Vision, and School of Business, Information and Public Service Mission and Vision; act professionally and collegially toward the college community.
Develop a course syllabus using the assigned syllabus shell, including evaluation procedures and an assignment calendar aligned with the course outline.
Prepare lesson plans and teach during scheduled class times using department-approved texts and course content guidelines.
Meet all scheduled classes on time and teach for the fully allotted class period; follow Owens standards for web instruction when teaching online.
Use appropriate classroom-management techniques and technology.
Create and evaluate assignments, assessments, and activities appropriate to the class; assign grades and return student work in a timely manner, generally within a week.
Maintain accurate attendance records and an electronic grade book; report attendance and submit grades and required records by published deadlines.
Administer course evaluations as instructed by the College.
Use the College course management system and approved, compatible software; submit requested electronic course documents and records.
Check Owens email at least every other day and generally read and reply to required messages within 48 hours; check the campus mailbox at least weekly.
Respond to student inquiries promptly and be available to meet with students outside class when necessary.
Attend Department and School meetings as necessary, participate in student learning assessment, and perform other assigned departmental duties.
