About The Position

Adjunct instructor for the Toledo and/or Findlay campuses, with primary responsibility for delivering face-to-face instruction. Courses are primarily scheduled during daytime hours, as well as some evening assignments. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate business courses in areas such as management, finance, entrepreneurship, leadership, quality management, and other related business disciplines.

Requirements

Classroom and/or online instruction in the discipline.
Knowledgeable in the discipline and must provide high quality instruction.
Demonstrated knowledge of and integration of appropriate practices of teaching to different learning styles.
Strong skills in written and oral communication.
Strong skills in problem-solving.
Strong skills in critical thinking.
Strong skills in computer use, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or other required programs, Blackboard, and Owens email.
Ability to integrate a variety of methodologies in order to facilitate student learning.
Ability to understand the needs of community college students.
Ability to manage a classroom, including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons and activities that will facilitate student learning, and monitoring student behavior and performance.
Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
Ability to recognize students’ strengths and weaknesses in the discipline and to provide feedback to students in such a way as to facilitate their learning.
Ability to evaluate student work fairly using Department guidelines.

Master's degree in the discipline or an MBA
Three to five years of professional industry experience working in the discipline-related field.

Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.

Responsibilities

Develops a syllabus for the class using the assigned syllabus shell, including designing an evaluation procedure that falls within the parameters of the syllabus shell and creating a calendar of assignments in accordance with the course outline.
Prepares lesson plans and conducts classes during the scheduled times using the Department-approved text(s).
Follows Department guidelines for course content and best practices.
Meets classes on all scheduled dates during the assigned semester.
Meets classes on time and holds classes for their fully allotted time.
If teaching online, respects the Owens Community College Standards for Web Instruction.
Uses appropriate classroom management techniques.
Uses appropriate means and methods of technology.
Creates and evaluates assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class.
Assigns grades to student work.
Returns the graded assignments, evaluative measures, and activities to the students in a timely manner. Maintains the general guideline of returning student work and posting grades within a week.
Maintains accurate and thorough records of student attendance.
Reports student attendance as required, by the published deadline.
Maintains an accurate and thorough electronic grade book.
At the end of the term, reports grades to the Records Office by the deadline and submits electronic copies of grade book and attendance to the Department course management site.
Administers course evaluations as instructed by the College.
Uses the College’s course management system for assigned courses and department matters as appropriate.
Uses MS Office Suite and/or other required (and Owens-system-compatible and approved) programs.
Submits electronic copies of all requested documents (including syllabi, grade books, attendance records, and other files as required).
Accesses Owens email account at least every other day to communicate adequately with students and with the Department Chair. Maintains the general guideline of reading and replying to all required messages within 48 hours.
Checks campus mailbox at least once a week.
Responds to student inquiries outside of class in a timely manner.
Is available to meet additionally with students outside of class, if necessary.
Attends Department and School meetings as necessary.
Participates in student learning assessment activities.
Performs other departmental duties, as assigned.
