About The Position

Woodbury University's School of Architecture offers a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Interior Design at its Los Angeles campus. Through small class sizes and individual attention, we foster close mentoring relationships between faculty, staff and students. We are seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty member to teach upper-division Interior Design studio with a focus on healthcare design. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in commercial interior design, particularly healthcare environments, and a strong understanding of design aesthetics, materials, and interior building codes related to healthcare facilities. Faculty are expected to plan and prepare course materials, maintain an engaging and collaborative studio environment, and support students through all phases of the design process. Responsibilities include project development, critiques, student mentoring, grading, and reviews. The ideal candidate will bring professional experience in commercial interior design, particularly healthcare-related projects, with the ability to guide students in developing thoughtful, technically sound, and aesthetically strong design solutions. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of healthcare planning, interior materials and finish selections, building systems, accessibility standards, and interior codes applicable to healthcare facilities.

Requirements

  • Prior collegiate-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Professional experience in commercial built interior design projects required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare design, planning, and material selection.
  • Understanding of interior building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Strong design sensibility, material and aesthetic understanding.
  • Ability to mentor and guide students through studio-based learning environments.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups of learners and colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Communicates effectively in oral and written form.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
  • Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • NCIDQ certification preferred, but not required.
  • Master’s degree in Interior Design or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with healthcare, hospitality, workplace, or institutional interiors preferred.
