About The Position

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a part-time teaching faculty position to provide in-person instruction. The department is part of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), which focuses on providing graduates with the perspective, social awareness, and leadership skills necessary for becoming change-making engineers. The department offers undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and covers areas such as electronics, embedded systems, power, and communications. The department also plans to introduce a new concentration in Intelligent Systems in the future. Immediate instructional needs include electromechanical systems, circuits, electrical power, and semiconductors. Candidates from all areas of specialization will be considered.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of five years of experience in the industry or in academia.
  • OR a BS degree with ten years of experience, at least 3 of which are in teaching.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the college level, or evidence of strong teaching potential for candidates coming from industry.
  • Breadth of competency across core EE content areas appropriate for undergraduate instruction (circuits, electronics, signals and systems, embedded systems, etc.).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching laboratory courses and supervising hands-on design projects.
  • Industry experience, particularly in product design, systems engineering, or applied EE.
  • Experience with or interest in capstone and senior design mentorship.
  • Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes and outcomes-based assessment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers or student competition teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy and teaching diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person instruction in Electrical Engineering.
  • Teach courses in areas including, but not limited to, electromechanical systems, circuits, electrical power, and semiconductors.
  • Potentially mentor undergraduate researchers or student competition teams.
  • Potentially mentor capstone and senior design projects.
