About The Position

Walden University is seeking dynamic, innovative faculty with public health experience for part-time (adjunct) roles in the CEPH accredited Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program within the College of Health Science and Public Policy. The DrPH program is looking for qualified online teaching and doctoral mentoring faculty, with potential opportunities to teach face-to-face or virtual seminars at university academic residencies. Walden University, founded over 50 years ago, supports adult learners in achieving their academic goals and making a greater impact. We offer over 100 online degrees and certificate programs and are accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. Our hybrid schedule includes four in-office days per week (Monday–Thursday) to foster creativity, innovation, communication, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in public health or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in the practice of public health.
  • Record of scholarly activity (research or service) in public health.
  • Evidence of compatibility with the Walden mission of positive social change, broad access, professional excellence, and our values of quality, integrity, and student-centeredness.
  • Ability to work with students who are experienced, mid-career professionals.
  • Adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience and mentoring at the graduate level is preferred.
  • Experience with distance learning/teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate students by effectively and proficiently using online technology and resources.
  • Impart knowledge, information, feedback, and critique to students in thoughtful, carefully formulated, well-written, and timely communications.
  • Adhere to all Walden University faculty expectations.
  • Teach courses using the Canvas platform, interacting with students and completing grading within the platform.
  • Engage with students in discussion boards (when present) asynchronously, a minimum of 4 days per week.
  • Respond to student questions within 48 hours.
  • Adhere to posted course rubrics and provide constructive, qualitative, and personalized feedback and grades to students through Canvas within five days of the student due date.
  • Facilitate learning and discussion in discussion boards a minimum of 4 days per week.
  • Be reasonably accessible to students outside of discussion boards and provide substantive feedback on assignments and postings.
  • Publish availability to students through posted office hours, instructor information, and/or other appropriate documents.
  • Maintain regular and predictable availability for online or phone office hours.
  • Serve as Doctoral Chair/Committee Member, mentoring students completing research requirements for their doctoral degrees.
  • Initiate and maintain frequent and regular interaction with students.
  • Respond to student submissions with constructive written feedback in a timely fashion.
  • Help students produce high-quality work by analyzing and synthesizing appropriate subject matter and/or applying appropriate research methods and data analyses.
  • Evaluate students’ work related to their progress in achieving academic milestones and demonstrating standards of quality.
  • Assist students in maintaining satisfactory academic progress toward timely completion of their degree programs.
  • Advise students on the development of quarter plans.
  • Work closely with the committee chair to help students advance in a timely manner.
