About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at James Madison University is accepting applications for part-time faculty to teach a variety of chemistry and biochemistry courses. Our department currently serves about 3000 undergraduate students each year. We offer a wide variety of courses for chemistry majors, other STEM majors, general education, and pre-health professional students. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is actively committed to increasing the success of all students, attracting faculty and students with a range of backgrounds and experiences, and sustaining a welcoming work and learning environment.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is preferred or a M.S with at least 18 hours of graduate course work.
  • A demonstrated commitment to increasing the success of all students is required.
  • Candidates will complete the faculty application and attach the following: (1) cover letter, and (2) curriculum vitae.
  • The cover letter should address the candidate’s qualifications, including their commitment to a welcoming learning environment.
  • The names and contact information for three references will be requested as part of the application.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
  • James Madison University uses the E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture or laboratory classes in their area of specialty.
  • There is the greatest need for instructors in general education courses as well as laboratory instruction in general chemistry.
