About The Position

This position involves teaching students effectively in assigned classes and maintaining office hours for student consultation. The role requires an on-campus presence, even when teaching online courses, in accordance with state law. The instructor will be responsible for providing students with a written course syllabus, participating in the evaluation of the instructional process, and using innovative strategies to continually improve learning. Responsibilities also include participating in the development and support of their discipline by recommending books and materials, revising curricula, and recommending teaching assignments. The faculty member will maintain accurate and complete course records, perform professional activities as agreed upon with the division dean, and work collaboratively with colleagues. They will use knowledge of diverse communities and learning styles to incorporate delivery methods in instruction, participate in student advising and registration, and utilize technology to facilitate learning and manage data. The position requires meeting professional assignments in accordance with the System’s calendar and contractual obligations, complying with Dallas College board policies, state and federal policy, and the student code of conduct. Commitment to the college mission and goals is demonstrated through participation in planning division objectives and budget requests. The role includes serving on and attending college committees, participating in campus commencement exercises and other required college meetings and activities, and participating in their own performance appraisal. The faculty member will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, may work with student clubs and/or organizations, and will demonstrate verbal and written communication skills to support effective interaction with various stakeholders. Promoting the college in the community through marketing activities and participating in professional development activities, including completing required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year, are also key aspects of the role. Other duties as assigned are expected.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with students.
  • Demonstrated skills in successfully working with diverse populations through experiences such as formal training and past work experiences.
  • The ability to provide quality customer service.
  • For credit classes transferable towards a higher degree: Master’s degree or higher and at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline for credit courses.
  • For workforce education degree or certificate courses: a combination of academic preparation and work experience, including three (3) years of direct or related work experience other than teaching.
  • For developmental courses: Bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency (i.e., teaching experience, honors, graduate course work or other related accomplishments).
  • Official transcripts will be required at time of interview.
  • Will be subject to a criminal background check.
  • Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
  • Position requires regular and predictable attendance.
