About The Position

Ivy Tech Bloomington is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach basic communication courses on campus, including "Fundamentals of Public Speaking" and "Introduction to Interpersonal Communication." The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to inspire students, and create an impactful learning experience in a diverse collegiate environment. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for fostering an active learning environment and delivering effective instruction and assessment according to provided common syllabi. Courses are offered on campus with specific time slots available on Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays, either from 9am-11:50am, 1pm-3:50pm (8-week courses), or 6:00pm - 8:50pm (16-week courses). Daytime, on-campus availability is a requirement. Adjunct Faculty are hired on an as-needed basis each semester, teaching between 3 and 13 hours per week at a rate of $46.75 per contact hour. Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts to verify minimum qualifications.

Requirements

  • A qualified faculty member teaching COMM 101-Fundamentals of Public Speaking meets credentialing by one of two routes: 1. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree in speech or communication, from a regionally accredited institution; or 2. Possesses an earned master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., rhetoric, linguistics, homiletics, law, theatre, public relations).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
  • Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction.
  • Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.
  • Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned.
  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
