About The Position

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at DigiPen Institute of Technology is seeking applicants for potential future Adjunct Faculty positions to teach Communications courses. These courses are designed to help students develop essential skills for success in their chosen fields. Adjunct positions are evaluated each semester, and qualified candidates will be contacted as needs arise. The department faculty have extensive backgrounds in psychology, English, and social sciences, with a focus on exploring the current media landscape. Courses are often tailored to the interests of DigiPen students, typically covering introductory and professional communications, with opportunities to teach in other areas of expertise. This is an ongoing posting, and accepted applicants will be added to a pool of pre-approved adjuncts from which hires are made each semester on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Communications, or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • Comfortable with technology.
  • Ability to accommodate a wide variety of learning styles, special needs, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject areas in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.
  • Skills in Word, PowerPoint, Moodle, and MS Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Teach communications courses in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance in the Learning Management System.
  • Demonstrate evidence of teaching experience that supports a diverse student body and individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Organize class material, activities, and assignments.
  • Relate assessments to learning outcomes.
  • Manage Student Teaching Assistants, supervising their time cards and reviewing their weekly hours, if required.
  • Provide input on, create, and improve course materials.
  • Offer weekly office hours.
  • Teach in-person, with online classes when necessary.
