About The Position

Holyoke Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach general Business classes on campus. Example courses include Introduction to Business and/or Principles of Management. Successful candidates will teach in the BSTEM Division, under the direction of the Chair of the Department and/or Division Dean. The college is primarily looking for colleagues available to teach on-campus classes during the day, with potential opportunities to teach online or hybrid courses. Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing a quality learning experience for students on a semester basis, reporting to the BSTEM Dean, and performing instruction-related duties in accordance with the college's mission, policies, and procedures. The role involves acting as a teacher and facilitator of learning, distributing and reviewing course syllabi, utilizing active learning methods and diverse instructional strategies, staying current with developments in their professional content area, arranging for necessary materials and equipment, and accurately recording and reporting student data. Adjunct faculty are expected to be supportive of students' learning goals, focus on learning outcomes, consider student needs and abilities, become familiar with academic and social support services, make provisions for individual differences, maintain academic integrity, and be available to assist students. They are also expected to recommend campus services such as library services, financial aid, and counseling. Adjunct faculty must attend all scheduled classes and follow appropriate procedures for notifying supervisors and providing alternate assignments if a class must be missed.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Business or related area
  • Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute and review the course syllabus during the first class meeting.
  • Forward a course syllabus to the dean no later than the end of the first week of classes.
  • Utilize active learning methods and a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Remain abreast of ongoing developments and practices in their professional content area(s).
  • Arrange for the acquisition and preparation of appropriate materials and equipment necessary to meet course objectives in collaboration with the area dean.
  • Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data, including assessment of student performance and final grade reports.
  • Be supportive of students' learning goals by focusing on student learning outcomes, taking into account the needs and abilities of the students, and becoming familiar with academic and social support.
  • Make reasonable provisions to accommodate individual differences.
  • Maintain the academic integrity of the college.
  • Make himself/herself available to assist students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Recommend campus services to students as needed (e.g., library services, financial aid, counseling, supplemental instruction).
  • Attend all scheduled classes.
  • Follow appropriate procedures by notifying the supervisor or the supervisor's designee and providing an alternate assignment if it is necessary to miss a class.
