About The Position

The School of Professional Studies at Columbia University is seeking experienced industry professionals to serve as part-time Associates for a graduate-level course in Cloud Computing. An Associate is a faculty line junior to a Lecturer who provides subject matter expertise and supports the instructional process for a course section. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to graduate-level teaching at Columbia University. The course focuses on applied cloud computing concepts and practices, covering infrastructure, administration, services, and applications, with an emphasis on developing practical skills in using cloud services to build distributed and scalable analytics applications.

Requirements

Graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Solid knowledge and academic foundation in distributed computing, UNIX operating system fundamentals and shell programming
Experience with the Linux operating system, cloud virtualization and storage systems
3+ years of professional experience with at least one of the commercial cloud services (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or IBM Cloud)
Knowledge of Python programming language

Nice To Haves

University teaching experience
Experience with setting up and configuring Google Cloud Platform services
Knowledge of distributed computing and orchestration frameworks, such as Apache Spark and Kubernetes

Responsibilities

Attend all class sessions, assist with instruction, lead breakout sessions, facilitate discussions.
Evaluate, grade student work and assessments as requested by the course Lecturer.
Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.
