About The Position

Each part-time faculty member reports to a chair or director, satisfies criteria for accreditation, possesses subject matter expertise, and has instructional and institutional responsibilities. Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Microbiology develops, prepares and teaches a variety of coursework related to microbiology. Adjunct Faculty are employed on a term-by-term basis and may be assigned teaching duties at SF's main Northwest campus or at any of the College's six educational centers. Course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of the qualifying fields.
  • A professional degree (MSN, MD, DO, DVM, or other advanced clinical degrees awarded by nationally accredited institutions) may be accepted as fulfilling the degree requirements.
  • Qualifying Fields: Animal Sciences, Biochemistry (emphasis on cell physiology), Biology, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Cell Science, Cytology, Epidemiology, Food Microbiology, Immunology, Medical Entomology, Medicine, Metabolism, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Prokaryotic Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Virology.
  • A criminal background check will be conducted.

  • Ability to deliver a high level of interactive service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications.

Responsibilities

  • Designing courses, delivering instruction, evaluating student learning, and incorporating college-required technology.
  • Possessing subject matter expertise and engaging in ongoing professional development.
  • Maintaining effective communication within the College and the department or program.
  • Plan, organize and teach language coursework that will optimize student access, retention and success.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and staff within the department to develop, evaluate, revise and enhance curriculum and ensure mastery of material.
  • Support and promote the mission of the Sciences for Health Programs Department and SF, which centers on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, service, and faculty professional development and scholarship.
  • Collaborate with the Chair of the department, department faculty and staff, as well as other college officials to assist with implementing college policies, objectives and functions in accordance with the SF mission, vision, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain accurate records such as attendance, grading and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Honor student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations and college rules.
  • Proctor exams and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
