About The Position

The Adjudicator position ensures due process for employers and claimants according to state and federal guidelines. This role involves conducting fact-finding interviews via phone, mail, and email to gather information for non-monetary decisions, adding or releasing potential issues, entering claimant overpayments with proper documentation for appeals, and ensuring accurate data entry into computer systems and claim record cards. Determinations must be written clearly for understanding by claimants and employers. The position also requires adherence to OESC's safety/security protocols, participation in required training, and on-site attendance for direct interaction with staff, clients, and office resources. Job functions may change with or without notice.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in employment services, career or vocational guidance and counseling, personnel, recruitment, training, customer services or social services related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university for 3 years of the required work experience.
  • Proficiently using OESC’s standard software (Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Teams), and the Internet, as well as proficiency to learn other software as needed.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, and moving objects of up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer at the time of application.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with people.
  • Exercise good judgment in evaluating eligibility requirements.
  • Exercise good management in evaluating case management situations.
  • Interpret state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to veterans’ programs, social services, and employment and training activities.
  • Understand economic trends, social service programs, and psychology.
  • Anticipate, identify and resolve problems.
  • Prepare basic reports.
  • Analyze and resolve complex situations.
  • Perform highly independent work.
  • Make independent decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills expressing ideas clearly and concisely.

Nice To Haves

  • Typing skills of 50 WPM.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure due process to employers and claimants according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Conduct fact finding with claimants and employers via phone, mail and e-mail to gather information needed to issue a non-monetary decision that meets benefits, timeliness and quality measures.
  • Add potential issues when deemed necessary for the adjudication process (or release them).
  • Enter claimant overpayments; ensure proper and complete documentation is in the file for the appeal process.
  • Responsible for the completion and accuracy of all data entry into the computer system and to the Claim Record Card of each file.
  • Follow the required OESC’s safety / security protocols.
  • Participate in required Division training regimen.
  • On-site attendance is an essential function of the position, as the role requires direct interaction with staff, clients, and on-site office resources.
