Addictions Counselor - Riverhead - Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
About The Position
Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking an Addictions Counselor for their Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in Riverhead. This role involves interviewing and screening individuals for program admission, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, and providing counseling services. The counselor will also maintain patient records, monitor urine sample collection, and collaborate with staff. Additionally, there may be opportunities to conduct educational sessions, counsel patients on job training and social services, and make referrals to other agencies.
Requirements
- Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
- Current certification from NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)
- Possession of the requirements necessary to be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) with one year of experience or satisfactory completion of a training program in the treatment of substance use disorders
- Uphold the OASAS Scope of Practice and the Canon of Ethical Principals
- NOT seeking CASAC-T certification
Responsibilities
- Interviews and screens individuals seeking admission to Suffolk County Opioid Treatment Programs
- Plans, implements and evaluates an individualized treatment plan for each patient
- Monitors patient progress and makes recommendations for further treatment if necessary
- Provides individual and group counseling services
- Maintains patient records and reports
- Monitors the collection of patient urine samples and keeps pertinent records
- Collaborates with supervisors and clinic staff regarding patient progress and patient services
- May conduct education and information sessions, workshops, and training programs for individuals with substance use disorders and members of their community
- May counsel patients regarding job training and placement, advise them of available social services, and refer them to other agencies if necessary
